Yamaha reanalyzed and reevaluated literally every single design specification. The bell and the barrel offer a tone of breathtaking richness and depth. The sound is warm yet has a clear focused center surrounded by a wealth of overtones, resulting in extraordinary beauty and expression.
- New selection of water-resistant materials for some pads.
- Since the C#/G# tonehole is not ideally positioned acoustically, the sound and resistance is not in line with the rest of the scale. To resolve this, a long, wider tube is inserted through the body to form the tonehole chimney.
- The Low E and Low F need to be intentionally tuned lower to keep the long-B and long-C in tune. The German key system is one solution, but there are drawbacks such as increase in weight, unwanted resistance due to the large extra tonehole in the bell, and less high overtones. Now offered Yamaha's own light-weight optional system with simpler mechanism and smaller tonehole.
- The CS is named after Canens, a Roman Goddess of Song.
- The "G" stands for German to represent the German taste such as short barrel, ring-less bell, and its mild, soft tone color.
