April 11: Johannes Grosso Masterclass 
hosted by The Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Shefali Pryor, Principal Oboist of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra

Johannes Grosso, the new Principal Oboist of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will be giving a Masterclass at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. This is an outstanding opportunity to learn from an exemplary soloist with experience in many top orchestras and ensembles worldwide. Observe Johannes share first hand his knowledge and expertise as he works with oboists.

Bookings are not necessary and this is a free event.

Johannes Grosso Biography

In 2014, Johannes Grosso was awarded the 1st Prize of the Prague Spring International Music Competition. He also won the Giuseppe Tomassini International Competition (Italy), the Asian Double Reed Society Competition (Taiwan) and received the 2nd prize of the Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox Competition (USA). Moreover he was awarded the Vegh Sandor Competition Prize (Hungary).

These successes enabled him to appear as a soloist with famous conductors including Christoph von Dohnányi, Daniele Gatti, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Tommas Guggeis and orchestras including the Czech Radio Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra and New Bach Collegium Leipzig. Johannes is solo oboe in the Francfort Opera House and member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra after spending four years with Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France. He is currently principal in Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and is regularly invited as solo oboist with the leading European orchestras (Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, and the Bamberger Symphoniker)

On a frequent basis Johannes gives master classes and teaching in various music academies. In 2018, he has been appointed at the Norwegian Music Academy in Oslo.
